Free Downloadable “Strong and Beautiful” Coloring Sheet

Spokane ceramics artist Jill Smith hosts an annual retreat for women veterans, and she sent out a call for local artists to donate coloring sheets for a coloring book this year, the event’s 10 year anniversary. I really wanted to contribute a design for this great cause, and I figured I’d post it here too for anyone else that might want to color it. Click the image below to download the PDF.

From Jill: “Women Warriors & The Cowgirls retreat in mid-May is celebrating its 10 year this May! Each of the past years we have been one (if not THE) biggest most successful retreats for women veterans in the United States! Quite an honor. We have over 40 women veterans coming from all over the northwest to spend 3 days at the ranch. It is free to them as we honor them for their service and offer a fun filled weekend of classes, healing and bonding. The classes range from art (raku pottery, sculpting clay animals, making candles, cards and wool spinning) to garden classes and lots of time with the healing touch of animals (horseback riding, driving a wagon and lots of spring baby animals to cuddle!)

A class we offered last year was simply “Cowgirl Coloring” and I was surprised how many vets just loved sitting, coloring and sharing stories. For our 10 this year i thought it would be fun to create a “Cowgirl Coloring Book” for our vets to color and enjoy. I also thought it would be a change for many of our local talented artists to help us honor women vets. So I am asking artists to draw a black and white coloring page to be in our coloring book. The drawing can be as complex or as simple as any would like to make it. I would love to have the artist sign their name and if they would like to add a message of any kind to these vets at the bottom. Women vets in general have been very overlooked in any form of thank you to them for their service. I hope the art community can show them we care.”
